Volunteer Opportunities with Friends of Arington’s Planetarium (May 2025)
The Friends of Arlington’s Planetarium (FOAP) is an all-volunteer organization - from our grassroots beginning, to our elected board of directors, and to our many members who support our community programs and outreach efforts. Right now, the Friends are seeking support from volunteers to help us with short-term and long-term needs in the following areas:
Communications Coordinator - We seek a volunteer who can work with our board members to develop a communications framework to support FOAPs outreach and messaging through multiple platforms (print, online, etc.), our website, and developing media strategies. The Communications Coordinator will provide content for news releases, messaging, and FOAPs monthly newsletter. This position requires 5-8 hours each month.
Volunteer Program Support - The Friends thrives on volunteers! We are looking for a volunteer with experience in volunteer management, to help develop our volunteer program, and manage communications, training, and coordination with FOAP program needs. This role requires 5-8 hours per month.
Graphic Design Support - We seek a volunteer with skills and expertise in graphic design to work with our board in coordinating our branding across our communications and activities. This support requires 5 hours per month.
Portable Dome Planetarium Operators - FOAP was fortunate to acquire a portable dome in 2024. We are seeking volunteers to join our cadre of trained portable dome equipment operators. This would require hands-on training (one to two sessions) and volunteering for events where FOAP’s portable dome is being showcased. The time commitment for portable dome operators is a few times a year, and each event requires a few hours time.
