About the Planetarium
The David M. Brown Planetarium is owned and operated by Arlington Public Schools (APS). APS uses the planetarium to offer customized, grade specific science instruction to K-12 students. Mary Clendenning, a National Board Certified Teacher, provides a variety of learning activities, including immersive films, sky simulation demonstrations, and hands-on interactive lessons. On weekdays during the school year, the planetarium is open for Arlington Public School students and staff. See the APS Planetarium Website for additional information. The planetarium is open to the public on specific weekends, during public programming events sponsored by APS or The Friends of Arlington's David M. Brown Planetarium. The theater was first opened in 1969. It has a 30 foot diameter Spitz dome, and is equipped with 58 seats and two spaces for wheelchairs. The projection system uses a single, center mounted video projector with 2K video resolution, and runs Digistar 2025 planetarium software. |
