September Friends of the Planetarium Programming

The Friends of the Planetarium organizes and hosts public programs for one weekend each month. We've chosen themes for each month, and all the activities or presentations for a given weekend will be related in some way to the chosen theme. The Friends of the Planetarium will use donations from the community to purchase digital full-dome programming to complement the library being developed by Arlington Public Schools.

In celebration of Comet ISON and the inauguration of our 2013-2014 season, the theme for September is Comets are Coming!

Comet ISON is already visible with a medium-sized telescope, and there is a good chance that it will become the “comet of the century” as it grazes the sun in late November.

Finally, keep a lookout for Comet 2P/Encke, which will be visible through medium telescopes in October.
