Friends Ask APS to Fund Planetarium Director
Some of the Friends who attended the March 31, 2022, public hearing on the Superintendent's proposed budget for the 2022-2023 school year: Jim Edwards-Hewitt & Alan Schweser (back row) Ken Moore, Kathi Overton, Theresa Schweser, and Jennifer Bartlett.
Several members of the Friends spoke at the March 31, 2022, public hearing on the Superintendent's proposed budget for the 2022–2023 school year. Each speaker described the valuable role the David M. Brown Planetarium plays in educating our students and asked that funding for the Planetarium be restored so that it can serve our community again. The majority of the requested funds would pay for a single full-time teacher to supplement the K-12 curriculum. A charismatic and knowledgeable director can use the state-of-the-art projection system to enable students to visualize complex systems in 3-dimensions and to engage students with their courses in innovative ways. Please join us in asking the School Board to restore sufficient funding to hire the right teacher to lead the Planetarium for years to come. The return on this minimal investment in a single teacher's salary will be phenomenal, just ask a student who is excited to sit under the dome and learn. #APSbudget
