Dean Howarth

Dean Howarth has taught physics at nearby McLean HS for 26 years and joined the
Board in 2012. Seeing a positive side to dilettantism, Dean connects science to
a wide variety of other fields such as the fine arts, philosophy, and history.
His most successful example of this is his interdisciplinary living history
program that incorporates student research, historical interpretation, public
history, and community service. The rich history of astronomy provides a
multitude of compelling stories that can bring the works of Galileo, Newton,
and many others back to life.
